The importance of maintaining your second home

Many people have homes they live in permanently and home that they vacation in or visit infrequently. What most people with second homes don’t know is the importance of running your HVAC while the home is not occupied, especially in warmer weather. Microbial growth occurs in dark damp spaces so when the humidity is higher spores grow rapidly. Running your HVAC and keeping the home cool can reduce the risks for microbial growth. Recently we were called out to a home in Oxford, that was used as a gameday weekend home. The owners had not visited the home since the previous fall and it was closed without adequate air flow for a very long time. This allowed spores to cover the structure and contents. Because the homeowner called SERVPRO we were able to do a complete mold remediation by cleaning all contents and structure.
If you see signs of microbial growth, SERVPRO of Oxford/Batesville/Clarksdale can perform the necessary tasks to help you.
