Fire Prevention Week began in 1922 and has been sponsored by the National Fire Protection Administration ever since. In 1925 it became a national observance which makes it the longest-running public health observance in the US. This year’s campaign “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen!” and is observed October 4 through October 10. The goal of the campaign is to educate the public on the easy ways they can take to keep themselves, and those around them, safe in the kitchen. The number one cause of home fires and injuries is cooking. This week fire fighters educate and provide life saving information to children, teachers, and adults across the US in hopes of reducing the amount of fire related injuries and deaths.
