You work so hard to maintain a clean and functional home on top of everything else that you have going on, so it can be really disheartening to suffer from home damage unexpectedly.
While you probably have a reliable maintenance routine and keep your home in tip-top shape on any given day, you can be surprised by something as simple as a small water leak at any time.
Knowing what to do in the face of a water disaster can make all of the difference in the world! Read on while we explain what to do first.
Starting at the Source
It can be really tricky to track down the original source of the leak if you weren’t home or in the room when it started. Since water can leak and seep virtually everywhere, you could be dealing with soggy walls, floors and ceilings, which can make your search area much larger and more complicated.
Start with any appliances that are in the room. Inspect behind and beneath the machine for puddles or an active drip. If it is coming from a dishwasher or washing machine, quickly locate the water valve and shut it off.
If you are coming up dry (literally), move on to any water lines or fixtures in the space. A single leaking water line can slowly create a massive puddle, especially if it is left to drip for hours or days before it is discovered. Finally, check any windows and exterior doors in the room. A crack in the window sill or a door jamb that isn’t airtight anymore can easily invite water into your home when it rains.
Staying Calm
There is certainly no doubt that suffering water damage is frustrating! We know that it can be incredibly overwhelming to think about all of the water that is now in hard-to-reach areas. However, it is important that you stay calm and slowly start to assess the situation from a dry location.
Do your best to stay out of the water while you take photos and figure out what your game plan should be. Depending on the scale of the water leak, it could have flooded outlets or compromised your electrical system and lead to the water becoming charged. Open some windows, turn on a fan and then give us a call.
How We Can Help
While you may think that getting out a mop or some kitchen towels is enough to dry up the water, chances are that you will not get all of the water removed on your own. Water that is behind walls and under floors can be really hard to dry up without professional equipment.
That’s where we come in! Our air movers and industrial blowers can ensure your entire space is dried quickly and safely.
We can also investigate the source of the leak and fix any repairs. Finally, we will be able to restore the parts of your home that were damaged by the moisture. We can repair warped and swollen floorboards, saggy drywall and discolored ceilings with ease!
Water damage can become worse the longer it lingers in your home. Call SERVPRO of Oxford/Batesville/Clarksdale today.
